Sevenoaks - Competition Entry

Design Statement:

Sevenoaks wildlife orientation and observation centre

• The Sevenoaks nature reserve like any other has a fragile eco-system and hence the project should focus on minimal intervention. It is more sensible to retain the existing building and extend it instead of proposing to demolish it. It is easier and less intrusive to infuse new life into the existing building than to demolish and rebuild.

• Our proposal is to remodel the existing building and attach two new jewel like glass box extensions. The extensions attach to the existing building and reach out to the adjacent West Lake enabling a tranquil immersion into the nature reserve.

• Our proposal channels all foot fall through the new building and onto the new elevated reserve entrance link walk way. This new scenic entrance walkway link would be the only public route into the Sevenoaks nature reserve. The walkway link would be constructed of modern robust non-slip wheelchair friendly maintenance-free materials and it would create a suitably poetic entrance into the serene world of Sevenoaks nature reserve.
